Nominees should demonstrate:

1. Industry Expertise

  • A strong foundation of technical knowledge and professional competence within the highways sector.
  • Evidence of successfully delivering projects, initiatives, or strategies with measurable impact.

2. Passion and Commitment

  • A clear passion for the industry, demonstrated through dedication and innovative thinking.
  • A proactive approach, going beyond their role to drive positive change.

3. Communication and Influence

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire colleagues, stakeholders, and the wider industry.
  • Evidence of influencing decision-making, improving collaboration, or raising the profile of key issues.

4. Contribution to the Sector

  • Active engagement in industry initiatives, working groups, or mentoring programmes.
  • Contribution to advancing diversity, sustainability, innovation, or best practice across the sector.

This award recognises initiatives that deliver meaningful improvements in workforce health, safety, and wellbeing across the highways sector.

Entries should demonstrate a proactive, people-first approach that goes beyond compliance to create safer, healthier, and more supportive working environments.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Clear evidence of an initiative that improves workforce safety, health or well-being
  • Demonstrable impact on behaviours, culture, or working conditions
  • Innovative approaches to mental health, fatigue, inclusion, or workplace practices
  • Measurable outcomes such as reduced incidents, improved well-being metrics, or workforce feedback
  • Potential for the initiative to be replicated or scaled across the sector

  • A strong customer-first approach embedded in delivery or operations

Judges will be looking for:

  • Biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions

Judges will be looking for:

National Highways Chair's Award (NEW)

This new award will be presented by the Chair of National Highways, who will personally select the overall winner. This award cannot be entered directly. Instead, the top three entries from each category will automatically go forward for consideration. From this shortlist, the Chair will select the team or project that best demonstrates outstanding impact, leadership, and contribution to the sector.
