Rising Star Award

The energy transition has created a wave of job vacancies across multiple markets, yet the industry continues to face a major skills shortage. As the sector evolves rapidly, it is vital to attract and nurture young talent, encouraging interest in STEM subjects and showcasing the diverse and exciting career opportunities within the renewable energy industry.

Young talent plays a crucial role in driving innovation, ensuring companies remain competitive, and helping the sector meet ambitious climate targets.

The Rising Star Award highlights exceptional young professionals within the energy industry who are already making a significant impact in their early careers. This award seeks to celebrate creativity, innovation, and leadership among the next generation of industry professionals and to provide a platform for recognition and future collaboration.

Eligibility:

  • Open to individuals with less than five years of experience in the energy industry.
  • Nominations may be submitted directly by the individual or by a colleague, manager, or mentor.


Entries will be judged on innovation, leadership potential, technical excellence, collaborative skills, and their overall contribution to advancing the UK’s clean energy transition.

NEW: Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award

To be eligible for this award, initiatives must have been launched, implemented, or significantly advanced by 27th May 2026.

Ongoing programmes are eligible, provided there is clear evidence of measurable progress, impact, or development within the qualifying period. Eligibility will ultimately be at the judging panel’s discretion. Nominations are open to organisations, projects, partnerships, or programmes that demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainability within the solar and storage sector. This may include initiatives such as carbon reduction programmes, circular economy approaches, responsible sourcing, or biodiversity and environmental protection efforts.

Entries will be judged on environmental impact, innovation in approach, scalability, and the initiative’s contribution to advancing sustainability across the industry in the UK. Please refer to the entry criteria.

The Lucy Aitchison Women In Energy Award

The Lucy Aitchison Women in Energy Award recognises and celebrates an outstanding woman in the energy sector who has helped to drive the energy transition and empowered the move towards a more flexible and sustainable energy system of the future.

This award aims to promote the participation and advancement of women in leadership across the energy sector, drive the gender mainstreaming agenda, and support equality and equal opportunities within the industry.

We invite industry professionals to submit nominations for inspirational women who are making a lasting impact on the sector.

Entries will be judged on leadership, innovation, advocacy for gender equality, industry impact, and contribution to the clean energy transition.

About Lucy Aitchison

Lucy Aitchison was a pioneering figure in the UK's renewable energy sector and a co-founder of Photon Energy, a company specialising in solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems. Established in 2006 alongside Jonathan Bates, Michael Holmes, and Rolf Oldach, Photon Energy has grown to become one of the UK's leading independent installers of solar PV systems. With a degree in Electrical Engineering, Lucy began her career at BP Solar in 1998 and dedicated 25 years to the solar industry. At Photon Energy, she served as Engineering Director, leading the engineering team and overseeing the design and delivery of numerous renewable energy projects . Her contributions were posthumously recognized when she was honoured with the Women in Energy Award at the Solar & Storage Live Awards, acknowledging her commitment and impact in the field . Lucy Aitchison is remembered not only for her technical expertise but also for her unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability and her inspirational leadership within the renewable energy community.

The award looks beyond the accomplishments of the past 12 months, instead celebrating a lifetime of dedication, highlighting someone who has consistently gone above and beyond in pursuit of a greener, more sustainable economy.

Entries will be judged on the depth and breadth of their career impact, lasting legacy, leadership, and influence in driving forward the UK’s renewable energy transition.

EV Infrastructure Project of the Year Award

Recognising projects that accelerate the rollout of EV charging infrastructure across the UK.

Poor infrastructure and grid constraints remain significant barriers to the mass adoption of electric vehicles in the UK. This award recognises projects that have taken innovative and effective approaches to overcoming these challenges. Entries should demonstrate how technology, partnerships, services, or business models have been successfully applied to enable the deployment of EV charging infrastructure at scale.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence of innovation in delivery, technology, or business model
  • How challenges such as grid constraints, access, or scalability have been addressed
  • Demonstration of technical excellence and operational effectiveness
  • Contribution to accelerating EV adoption and infrastructure rollout
  • A solution that is replicable or scalable across the UK

Eligibility Criteria

  • Projects must have been undertaken after 1st January 2025 completed by 27th May 2026
  • Entries must demonstrate clear, measurable impact on EV infrastructure delivery

Nominations are open to local authorities, community energy groups, and other community-focused organisations, and all entries should emphasise the positive social, environmental, and economic impact on the local community.

Entries will be judged on the scale of positive community impact, innovation, replicability, and contribution to advancing local and community energy in the UK.

Nominations are open to solar-only products, storage-only products, or products that combine solar and storage technologies.

Entries will be judged on originality, technical innovation, market impact, and the potential to advance the solar and storage sector in the UK.

This award celebrates the successes and innovations of both primary and sub-contractors who operate and manage the UK’s solar, storage, and EV assets, either individually or as combined systems.

Entries are welcome from companies involved in:

  • Land or technology management
  • Use of technology to enhance performance and efficiency
  • Performance monitoring and reporting
  • Other technical services that contribute to keeping assets operating at optimal levels.

Entries will be judged on technical excellence, innovation, customer satisfaction, and contribution to ensuring the long-term success and performance of solar, storage, and EV assets in the UK.

Exemplary best practice, outstanding customer service and a trail of brilliant, completed projects are just a few of the traits our judging panel looks for in winners of our Contractor of the Year award.

This entry can be submitted by the company itself or by a third party. Entries should include details of completed works, testimonials from clients and customers, and a summary of what sets them apart from their competitors. Third parties may also nominate a contractor.

Judges will be looking for exceptional product offering, customer service, technical expertise, and overall contribution to supporting the sector’s growth.

Entries will be judged based on the quality and breadth of services offered, customer feedback, innovation in service delivery, and overall contribution to advancing the UK solar and storage industry.
